On September 6th, 2012, Noah Okuley went to the UVA hospital after getting a chest x-ray. That evening he had his first of two biopsies and days later was diagnosed with Stage 2B Hodgkins Lymphoma. He has already begun atreatment regimen of chemo with radiation at UVA. In response to the overwhelming support and encouragement, we have decided to throw a fundraising event on his behalf. On October 20th, Noah Fest 2012 will take place at Mountain Run farm in Bedford County. It is our hope that we will be able to raise money to help with the costs of Noah’s treatment, and also continue this event in the future to help other children in their fights against cancer and disease.

This is a family event and will take place from 12:00 noon until 11:00 pm. There will be activities for the kids, and food and beverage available for purchase. We have an outstanding lineup of music scheduled throughout the entire day and will also be holding a silent auction with items from all over! We ask that you RSVP online so we can have adequate amounts of food and beverage available for everyone.

Filling the Backpacks for Bedford County School children

Filling the Backpacks for Bedford County School children

Looking at backpacks full of school supplies, volunteers were happy for what they had accomplished. In less than 2 hours about 25 people filled over 200 backpacks of donated school supplies. Many of the volunteers were from the Bedford Leads Group (BBLG), a networking group from the Bedford Chamber of Commerce. BBLG donated over $700 in supplies and backpacks in addition to labor to help pack. Wendy Witt said “This is so great, I know how excited my kids are when we shop for the school supplies!”

BBLG members where seen smiling and having a great time while putting together the backpacks! Sadly, there was not enough of each of the supplies, we ran out of some items. Therefore some kids will only receive a portion of what they need for the school year.

A special thank you to Vicky Tent of Bank of Fincastle and to Liz Brown owner of Rapid Printing. The co-captained the event for us.They organized what to purchase, kept track of the money, and had it delivered to the drop off point.

This was so rewarding we hope to do more next year!
